About Walter
With family roots tied to Irish history since the 1400s, Walter brings centuries of heritage and genuine passion to every route. A graduate of UCD and Boston College, an author, and an officially certified Fáilte Ireland guide, he spent decades in Irish agriculture and sustainability before dedicating himself to sharing the real Ireland. Traveling with Walter means discovering the land through the stories, culture, and personal insight of a true local.

What an amazing experience! First of all...Walter does indeed exist! We had booked our Southern Ireland tour online and as this was our first trip to Europe, we were hesitant, but decided to go with all the lovely reviews here and on Facebook. Our driver, Marty, was incredible. Both Marty and Walter are knowledgeable about their homeland, and very welcoming to American tourists. They shared the history of Ireland past, and how it informed the country in the present. We were able to have experiences that you just wouldn't get if you put a trip together DIY or went on a larger tour. We went to a family owned pub, pulled a Murphys (it's better than Guinness - put it on your list to drink!), had a fun demonstration of hurling (the Irish sport :) ). We attended a sheep herding demonstration, stopped for ice cream, had a customized tour at every stop, and the recommendations to experience local flavor were top notch - make sure to take them up on the recommendations & be adventurous. Each night is on your own, and we always had recommendations for dinner spots (beyond the hotel). All of the hotels were comfortable and clean, with breakfast included. Our morning gathering times for the bus weren't too early, either.

Walter’s Way Tours was a wonderful small group (of 12) tour of the South that enabled us to see more of Ireland than we could have in a big coach bus. The itinerary took us to the highlights of south Ireland as well as to additional unexpected out of the way places. We were so glad we booked with Walter instead of trying to do it on our own. Walter is so knowledgeable and passionate about Ireland and its history- it’s quite infectious to listen and learn from him! Our driver/guide Marty kept us laughing with his craic and answered our many questions about all things Ireland. Marty kept the itinerary well paced with the sights, as well as food and comfort stops. He also kept things flexible and was responsive to special requests from the group. We got lots of recommendations for restaurants, pubs, music and sites in every town we were in. We enjoyed getting to know the others in our small group, but it was also nice having the chance to be independent when touring and staying at each town/hotel, so we had time alone whenever we chose that. All our hotels were lovely with nice spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and wonderful breakfasts. I would absolutely recommend Walter’s Way for a small group tour!
